Eleven of the Jade Fon Painters are honored to have their work exhibited at the Firehouse Art Center in Pleasanton from January 12 through February 14, 2018. This is the flyer the Firehouse Art Center created for their website--with Catherine McCargar's and my images used for the publicity!!
Jade Fon Plein Air Painters
We are artists who paint en plein air in Northern California—usually in or near the SF Bay Area. Our group was formed in memory of Jade Fon, AWS, who left us in 1983. His masterful award-winning paintings still inspire us, as do the stories of his teachings and sayings retold by those in the group who were privileged to be his students.

This painting was done en plein air over a number of early December mornings. The view was so gorgeous and peaceful and amazing that the painting almost painted itself. 15 x 28.5

Blackbird Ballad
Pam and I painted in the East Bay wetlands. She faced one direction, and I faced another. There were at times 10-20 blackbirds resting in the reeds. They almost looked like notes on a sheet of music. This painting was recently sold through the Valley Art Gallery. 10 x 14

Jeanne found this small vineyard sparkling along the road to Franklin Canyon in Martinez, and we went out there one lovely sunny day in November to paint it.

We came upon quite a herd of cows the first day we painted out at Old Lakeville Road, #1. My plein air effort was a study for this finished painting done later in the studio. The closeness of the cows to the road, and the sheer number of them was breathtaking, and it was a great "photo op" for bovine reference material.

Breaking Skies Over Cresta Blanca by Paul Majka
Although I've lived in the Bay Area for most of my life, I'd never been to Livermore before the Jade Fon Painters selected several locations there these past few weeks. Exploring the area around the Wente Winery following a passing storm, and after climbing up through grove of oaks to a knoll, this scene overwhelmed me... a place to return to!
