Breaking Skies Over Cresta Blanca by Paul Majka

Although I've lived in the Bay Area for most of my life, I'd never been to Livermore before the Jade Fon Painters selected several locations there these past few weeks. Exploring the area around the Wente Winery following a passing storm, and after climbing up through grove of oaks to a knoll, this scene overwhelmed me... a place to return to!

Lakeville Rd 1 Oil 11 x 14

A beautiful day with the Jade Fon Painters.

Lakeville Ladies by Nancy Partovi

These beautiful cows almost held still while I drew them.  I also had the help of a photo I took while there.  Although the drawing and first washes were done on site, the remainder was finished in my studio.  I hope to visit them again soon.  Watercolor, 10" by 14.25"

Spring at the Japanese Tea Garden by Catherine McCargar

Painting en plein air in San Francisco at cherry blossom time can be a chilly adventure. But the mature landscape of Golden Gate Park is always an inspiration.

Cliffs at Rodeo Beach by Catherine McCargar

Transparent Watercolor

This painting was begun on one of our annual outings to Fort Cronkhite, in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
I was attracted to the contrast of local colors.

Old Tasssajara School House by Nancy Partovi

10.25" by 14.25".  I don't often make a building the subject of a painting, but this school house looked so majestic and I could imagine children from my grandmother's grandmother's generation going to classes here. How fortunate that people in the San Ramon Valley have preserved and restored this historic site in Danville.

Steeple View at Retzlaff Winery by Catherine McCargar

Transparent watercolor, 11" x 14"

Sometimes there is a dark sky at the same time the earth is glowing. Sometimes it happens on a Saturday when we are out painting. Makes my day.

Plein Air Painter by Catherine McCargar

Transparent watercolor 10" x 14"

Plein air painters work with great anticipation to find just the right spot to set up for a painting. Here Bruce Ruark climbs a vineyard hill at Bent Creek Winery in Livermore, CA, enjoying the light, enjoying the challenge that awaits him when he gets out that big sheet of 300lb paper.
