We are artists who paint en plein air in Northern California—usually in or near the SF Bay Area. Our group was formed in memory of Jade Fon, AWS, who left us in 1983. His masterful award-winning paintings still inspire us, as do the stories of his teachings and sayings retold by those in the group who were privileged to be his students.

Steeple View at Retzlaff Winery by Catherine McCargar
Transparent watercolor, 11" x 14"
Sometimes there is a dark sky at the same time the earth is glowing. Sometimes it happens on a Saturday when we are out painting. Makes my day.

Plein Air Painter by Catherine McCargar
Transparent watercolor 10" x 14"
Plein air painters work with great anticipation to find just the right spot to set up for a painting. Here Bruce Ruark climbs a vineyard hill at Bent Creek Winery in Livermore, CA, enjoying the light, enjoying the challenge that awaits him when he gets out that big sheet of 300lb paper.

Elaine Burman and Her Friend the Llama
Elaine is painting in the countryside in Danville. Her friend the llama looks like he is about ready to critique her work.
